tv options

We started full timing last summer and have had lousy tv and internet. We have a Jack antenna and get spotty local channels. Depends on where we are what we get. Sometimes CBS or NBC, but never much. We were thinking of getting DISH but have no clue about their services for RVers. Is there a service package for TV and internet? We have ATT now and not that happy but locked into contract. Any suggestions for new full timers? Heading to Washington state for the summer (May-September)/ Thanks

  • You have to have antenna booster ON

You have to 'aim' the antenna head towards the TV transponder towers

You have to have TV set to 'air' 'antenna'

You have to scan for available channels

At every location......every time you move.

Here are some websites that give you available towers/channels and which direction to 'aim'

  • We use Millenicom for our mobile internet. Have had good reception everywhere we have been in 3 years.

For the tv - we have an older tv with the digital converter box. Antenna and built in antenna booster. We usually get 15-20 channels from most anywhere. Maybe you should check all the antenna connections -- is your booster turned on?
  • TV in an RV when you are locked into At&t is solvable. T mobile offers to buy out your existing contract. Get their unlimited plan and tether to a computer. You just hook the TV up to the computer using an hdmi cable. We use Verizon. I kept one of my old unlimited data plans and we pretty much now use that to watch TV on the road. Or Apple TV.

We do have a Direct TV HD dish on the top of our bus, but I got fed up with no local channels + no PBS that I cancelled. I have no intention of going Direct again even though I have an almost new HD dish.

The key is having a good source of internet.
  • Check dishformyrv.com to see what Dish offers. We are not full timers, but have had Dish at home for many years and also have it in the RV. Very happy with both.
