When the rules are very clearly stated, there remain many campers whose dogs remain the exception. These dogs are special and don't need to abide by the rules. Recently, at a NFS park, the host told me that an unleashed dog had viciously attacked another dog and bit a ranger. My leashed dog has been threatened by larger, unleashed dogs more than once in the past month and I have told the owners their dogs would be pepper-sprayed if they didn't call them off. (I know it's not the dogs' fault and I would much prefer to pepper-spray the owners. :D)So...the camp host or ranger should, after warning the offending campers once, call the county animal control to impound the dog/dogs. The owners could then pay a hefty fine to get their pets back and the county could pick up some needed revenue. :)

it would be sweet, but they won't impound for being off leash.now if the bite occurs, then it is a whole diff. ball game I believe.I went to the mts this weekend. lady had her 2 beagles off leash. they did not stray one second from her side on a short walk around my site area. they obeyed to the max. I thought, 'wow she has control'. HUH?? then not like 5 minutes later here comes one of the beagles hightailing it straight thru my site, right past my little dog who didn't even see it coming and on it went. (I laughed, oh yea real control!)then a bit later the same beagle was 'walking itself' with a family group and their 2 dogs, of course driving their muttleys a bit batty. but they were laughing about it.but rest of trip never saw the beagle loose again.I don't care how friendly, perfect, wise, adorable, trained and more a mutt is--loose it is a pain in the you know what to other people :) :)

I have had my lausa severely attacked by an off leash pit in front of my kids. Dog owners never apologized. They were evicted within the hour. I also have a black lab who would'nt hurt a fly and is extremely loyal staying with us always. I leash the lab in camp just to make everyone feel better. When out hiking the leash comes off. Never had a problem. Should I leash my dog there too? I have mixed thoughts on this.

Nice thought - ain't gonna happen.If you feel as passionate about invoking a rule about this as you seem, you should be writing to your Congressman, not to an RV forum.

I agree that it wont happen.... I am also a dog owner ( Black Lab).. I respect the rules and to this point she has not GOTTEN loose at any point.. Would she hurt someone or bite - NO.. BUT its not my place to decide weather she is leashed or not... I would love to carry a Taser with and every time I see a stupid dog owner , try it out ! :B

Since we and this thread have gone to the ridiculous, here is our little girl Fluff Fluff.

We always walk her with a 6 foot leash and pick up after her.

I've been bitten by dogs. It takes a great deal of restraint, compassion and understanding to not kick and/or choke the ever livin' snot out of 'em. Owners and dogs.
We leave our cats and Koi at the S&B when we venture out, relying on a well qualified pet sitter. Easy peasy. We can go a few weeks with each others' company and don't need the pets.

Then why do you insist on staying at campgrounds with leash rules. Just to prove you're different by letting your dogs run free bothering others? Perhaps you could purchase some land and camp there. Then you could let your dogs do whatever they want and nobody would care.

This is nothing further than the truth.
When are people going to understand that walking their dog is not exercising it? Dogs need to run to get exercise. A walk might make you feel like you're doing something for your dog, but you're really not. Almost every dog I see being walked is overweight and unhealthy, just like most of their owners.
