I have had my lausa severely attacked by an off leash pit in front of my kids. Dog owners never apologized. They were evicted within the hour. I also have a black lab who would'nt hurt a fly and is extremely loyal staying with us always. I leash the lab in camp just to make everyone feel better. When out hiking the leash comes off. Never had a problem. Should I leash my dog there too? I have mixed thoughts on this.
Yes you should leash your dog. What happens if your happy go lucky dog comes up to my dog which was picked on as a pup and was more likely to growl and get aggressive then not? People like you are the reason I didn't take my dog to a lot of places because while I had control of my dog you don't and while mine might act aggressive I would keep away from other dogs but when yours is running loose that's hard to do. Then I end up kicking the snot out of your dog and explaining the facts to you when you get all bent because I kicked the mutt.
Old Jake was the best Black Lab around, at 110 pounds all lean and trim that boy would break 2 inches of ice to retrieve a duck or goose. We made it to Canada 3 times were he retrieved more geese then most dogs do in a life time. He loved the wife, kids and grand kids like no other. As a puppy he got beat up a couple times from another dog and from then on he took a while to warm up to other dogs, puppy's and small females were no problem most of the time but big males got him going. I kept him leashed when others were around and off leash when training in areas without other dogs.
There was always someone that thought they didn't need to leash there dog and that dog always seemed to find us, most the time Jakes hair would stand up and he would look aggressive which would get the other dog all wound up and ready to attack. I would hold Jake tight to my left side so when the fight started I could put the boots to the other dog with my right foot. I'm sure in the few dog fights we were in I broke a few ribs, last fight caused Jake a few stitches but neither one of us even saw that mutt until it was on Jake's head. Towards the end of Jake's life I was to the point that if we were out away from people like hiking and an unleashed dog attacked us I was just going to shoot it at the first opportunity as Jake was to old and the cancer was wreaking havoc on his body, luckily in the last few months before I had to have him put down we managed to avoid any problems.
