Wow can I relate to all these post about dogs. It's always been of great concern in campgrounds. Dogs are territorial. They are not in the environment of the home they are familiar with, therefore much more aggressive in and around a temporary place. That being said what to do, you can not shoot or hurt them, it's illegal and you will be arrested. Mostly it does no good to complain to a host nor a ranger for that matter. I've given this much thought through the years and came up with a couple of ideas you all might consider. When on a hike I always carry a video camera to record loose dogs,. Mostly this is all it takes to get the owners attention and call the dog and leash it.
If that does not work and the dog gets too close to me, my family or my campsite I carry a small Dog repeller. It works like a charm!!!!
