Updating Furniture in our 5th Wheel

We are considering removing our rocker/recliner chairs and moving the sofa into that area across the back of our 5th wheel. Would like to then add a theater seating type loveseat in that place where the sofa is now. Has anyone done this ? and what are your recommendations? brand, store ? and if so, were you able to find one in cloth, or are they all leather / faux leather?

  • Many thanks to everyone who replied to my post. Great feedback. Appreciate it. We do need to keep the sofa sleeper for when the kids visit, so will continue to look for a replacement for the recliners.
  • We had the same setup you have. Recliners in the rear. Sofa in slide with dining table. Took sofa out and moved recliners to sofa position. Sofa would not fit across back. Made a custom double laptop table to put in rear (nice view out back window while working on laptops). About a year later found the perfect theater seats with console and cup holders between them at a local furniture store (Sparks Furniture, Sierra Vista, AZ). They are close to wall hugging. No more rotating recliners before closing slides. I'll check the brand tonight.
  • Be carefull with the theater seating. Not all of the theater recliners are wall hugger type. We have a Laz Y Boy at home and the recliners in the home theater aren't wall hugger type. It needs to be positioned about 14-16" away from the wall to be able to recline. Also make sure you have enough room to activate the recliner mechanism. We want to put a recliner love seat in the back of our 5'er and because of the built in end tables we need to look for a love seat with the release handles inside the arm rests. Just some food for thought.
  • We got rid of the sofa and the swivel recliners. Replaced sofa with wall higher Lazyboys. Replaced swivel recliners with a couple stationary high back armchairs. No more moving furniture to operate slides, plus more floor space since swivels aren't moved out.
  • I found the perfect theater seating at a small Amish shop outside LaGrange, IN. Lambright Comfort Chairs is the name of the place and they make lots of different chairs and loveseats and can do custom work. I like to sit straighter than many standard chairs and they could make one straighter very easy. They do not have their own website but their products are on This one

  • Will sofa depth allow slides to open/close?

Our sofa was too deep to go where recliners are so we replaced recliners with a set of Lazy-Boys........swivel/rocking recliners with large wood base.
But we had to take tape measure with us when shopping so that we didn't get a set too wide across arms (we need 27" to clear slides)

Good luck.....first you have to find the furniture you like and then you have to MEASURE it
We found lots we like.....few that measured up :B
  • Yes we have opposing slides and yes the recliners do have to be turned to close the slides for travel. The area where the sofa is currently is within the slide with the dinette. We have measured several times but have not been out shopping for the furniture yet. We did take into consideration removing the backs to fit through the door. Appreciate the info.
  • Do you have opposing slides?
Do you have to turn recliners sideways so slides can be operated?

How wide is area where sofa is currently?

We had a tough time finding any loveseat that was short enough (our sofa is in a slideout)

Also remember that the backs of any new loveseat/sofa/recliners need to come off so that they can go in thru entry door (measure, measure, measure)
Otherwise you will need to remove rear window
