My almost sold (Puhleese G-d, let it be so) home had awnings over the front windows when I first moved in. In a decision based on the cost of maintaining them, my thoughts based on social elitism in architecture and just wanting to let the sunshine in, I removed them in in the '90's.
Imagine my surprise when 5 years later the triple lined silk taffeta and linen drapes and curtains (I adore natural fabrics!) disintegrated whilst trying to clean them; now living in a world of "how I despise them" man made textiles regretting my awning removals.
As for a motor home.....try and position it so the full force of the sun
doesn't bother your view most of the day. Not possible? Put awnings down during the heat of the sun and pull back up early in the morn and later in the afternoon.
