We were at Arches NP Devils Garden campground once when late summer storms rolled in every afternoon. We were about to leave the RV to hike but paused and went back to bring in the awning.
A ranger walking by stopped to chat and said he saw costly damage all the time for people who unfortunately took off all day without thinking about the wind coming up.
I often watch new arrivals at a CG spend a lot of time to "set up housekeeping" with chairs, rug, grill, toys, dog pen, lighting, etc and the outdoor living room ceiling provided by that awning. It probably seems like too much trouble to keep taking it down - until the first time it gets blown away and causes $$$ in damage.
