We have 2 electric awnings on our 5th wheel and never tie them down. We bring them in whenever the wind kicks up or we're leaving for the day. They have permanently-installed LED lights so there's no need to disconnect anything each time. It's a quick and easy process.
I've seen too many awning mishaps where people think it won't happen to them. I'm not going to risk any damage over which I have full control.
