The front wheel assembly comes off pretty easy. I use a hitch pin for quick release. If you replace the rear wheel axle caps with cotter pins
you would reduce the height a couple of inches. The axle itself can be replaced, I believe with 5/8 inch stock from Lowes. Then you can make it long enough to add something other than the "impossible to remove" axel caps.
