WD hitch head wear issues

OK, this may be long winded so bear with me, we`ll see how well I can explain this.

I`ve had this hitch head for about 5-6 years, I replaced an older hitch head. Everything from the shank to the brackets for the DC is Reese. I haven`t seen any wear until this trip. the only difference is a new hitch on my Excursion and I flipped the cams so I have new surfaces for the WD bars to ride on. the bars are rated at 1200lbs, I`ve had them since 2006 when I bought the trailer.
I haven`t weighed the tongue in years, but last time it was weighed it was 1200lbs +/- 50lbs. the new Curt hitch on the X has the 2" receiver about an inch lower than the stock hitch. and it is angled down a bit more, this basically tilts the hitch head down giving more weight distribution. I have recentered the cams and checked the wheel wells for proper drop, 1 inch rear 1/4 inch front. with the old setup I had a little less Weight Distribution, around 1 1/2 inch rear and 0 to 1/4 rise in front. so with the new setup it looked good!
The X and trailer handled great the entire trip. the trailer always had a little push pull from semis....not this trip! on this trip it was rock solid and handled incredibly well (I also installed a new Dexter EZ-Flex suspension). the old suspension was worn and probably allowed the trailer to walk around over the axles, so I`m sure that made a huge difference in the handling! but I was very pleased with the new setup and adjustments.

But now I have this new issue. the WD bar (trunnion) pockets have worn to the point the WD bar is ready to get pulled through the hitch head! everything has always had grease from day one. this system has approx. 15k miles. this excess wear problem just showed up in the last 1000 miles.

This is the left lower pocket. you can see how it oblonged out the pocket! in the next 2 pics you can see the "step" where it used to be riding and now the new step where it is starting to get pulled out.

Here is the right lower pocket.

Here is a view from the back. you can see how the bottom pockets look like they have been bent down!

These are the trunnion ends. no abnormal wear showing.

These are the upper pockets, these show no wear. they aren`t even worn to the point they are letting the bar go up in the pocket.

Just for the heck of it here are the ends that ride on the cam.

and here is the WD bar in the hitch head.

I`m going to be calling Reese on Monday and see what they have to say.

Has anyone else run into this? trying to figure out what happened in 1k miles!
