WD Hitch w/Sway Control

Looking at a toyhauler in the 25-27 foot range. Most have an UVW of 7000-7500 lbs with a GVW of 10k lbs. Towing with a 97 Ford F350 diesel, with only 62k miles on it. Transmission upgrades as well as some performance upgrades.

I have read a lot on the WD hitches. Equal-i-zer and Reese Straight Line with DC sway control seem to be talked about a lot. Have read a bunch on the Blue Ox Sway Pro hitch with a lot of positives.

For the length and weight of the trailer we are looking at, which hitch would be the best for us? I know a very subjective question, just looking for reasons as well as brands.

Thanks in advance.
  • The Dual Cam in really not that hard to get set up. Just follow the install directions carefully, and then make SURE the cams are exactly centered in the V of the bars when the truck and trailer are lined up straight. The problems usually come when people do not get those cams centered in the bars V. That results in the two sides of the hitch fighting each other and the hitch performs poorly.
When line up exactly, it is hard to beat the performance of the Dual Cam system unless you go to a Hensley or equivalent.

We have an excellent tutorial stuck at the top of this forum called Travel Trailer Setup Procedure which includes a whole section devoted to the Dual Cam setup. Give it a look and then see if the setup will be too hard for you to attempt. I doubt you will have problems.

  • I have heard the Reese Straightline with Dual Cam can be a challenge to set up correctly. If I go this route, any tips on setup?
  • Hands down, the Reese Dual Cam. when set up properly it controls sway very well.
  • Been using my Reese Dual Cam a lot of years now and it always performed flawlessly.
  • Another nod for the Blue Ox. Less grease in the laundry.
  • My Equalizer works very well, but I really like the Blue Ox Sway Pro due to no exposed grease other than hitch ball. I'm seriously considering replacing the Equalizer next year.
  • Any of the ones you have already named in your post will work great....if you set them up correctly and balance the load in your trailer.

Had and Equal-i-zer...worked ok but was too noisy for us
Had a Reece Dual Cam Strait Line...great hitch. Somewhat difficult to set up and dial in.
Am going with a Blue Ox Sway Pro on our new trailer that is scheduled for delivery in early April.
