WD Setup

Traded TV so setting up the hitch again, I have it setup so the unhitched and hitched with WD come out to the same wheel well measurements. The original owner of this trailer just used a standard ball mount with the sway bar fitting but I went ahead and did the E2 hitch with built in sway. Should it have some weight on the rear of the truck or should it be ok like it is? TV is 11 Chevy Crewcab 1500 4x4 and trailer is a 19ft Shamrock. Thanks Michael

  • When I set up my Equalizer brand WD I call the factory techs and they walked me through the process. I was able to call back and talk to the same tech as I had additional questions towards the end of the set up. I found them very helpful. Just a thought that you might be able to get the manufacture to help.
  • Only the front fender needs to be lowered to the original height. The rear fender will probably be lower, but that's OK.
  • I did check the manual and it says to bring it back to unload height. I don't know if I never got it right on my old TV but 18 wheelers just pushed that short trailer all around. Should it be better than that? Thanks
  • Not sure about GM but Ford changed their recommendations for WD set up for model year 2010 and newer. Used to recommend return to original settings as you have yours but the new recommendations are to replace only HALF of the rear end sag using the WD. I initially set up my 11 Ford up using old recommendations and it was a little loose feeling then I read in the owners manual about the new recommendations and changed the setting and was surprised how much it helped. I'd check your owners manual or check with Chevy dealer for their recommendations for your model. Bottom line is if it tows well and is stable you are probably good to go but your trailer is quite a bit smaller than mine. Good luck / Skip
