- minzExplorerGood post, I had a 16 foot boat and trailer in my TH with the fresh water tank with 50 gallons, towed pretty good. I came home with all the same except the water (empty) and******it was not fun. Figure on putting in another ½ tank of water. I thought it was more the center of gravity then the weight on the ball (boat was higher than the tires, water lower than).
- Chuck_GailExplorerMines a toyhauler. We use the fresh water amount to get the tongue weight at 13% of the TOTAL TT loaded weight. Kind of a pain to do the first time, simple after that.
- skipncharExplorerYou ALSO might want to do some towing with it full and empty before you make that decision since if your FW tank is in the front, they MAY be a reason for it being there. could be your tongue weight is heavy enough only with it full. Some smaller trailers build in ballast by using the tankage for the purpose. Once you find out how it tows best and what your weights are, then as suggested, set it up in that mode. IF your trailer is not a small one, then you can likely forget about the issue as weight distribution is not usually a concern.
- downtheroadExplorerIf the tank is full and up front it will add about 300 lbs. to your tongue weight.
If you plan on towing with this tank full, you probably should fill it and then set up/adjust your hitch.
