I use a multi-section scale ($8.00 in a nearby AmBest Truck Stop). Put the front truck axle on the first pad, drive axle on the second pad, and trailer on the third pad. That way I know exactly what's going on, and the need to rebalance or just jettison some weight.
I would weigh each axle on the trailer separately, but the gap between sections is just a bit too tight--the wide set axles on some trailers would easily span that gap.
