Well on the road in an hour and 15 minutes.

Well I have stated before in post of how long to hit the road, 30 minutes to an hour.
Well we decided Friday morning to enjoy the weekend at the coast, well after much searching DW found a a spot at the KOA on the north coast.
Well DW got the food together, and from leaving work to leaving the storage lot with the 5er in tow was 1 hour and 15 minutes.
This included going home and changing out the hitch from the gooseneck ball for daughters future horse trailer to the 5th wheel hitch, airing up the rear tires to 75#. Loading the food, DW, battery (missed disconnect switch after last trip) and dogs in the TV. Storage yard needed to install battery, remove tire covers, start refer and hitch up and double check all.
We will keep this in mind to know that we can get rolling in a short time.

  • DW likes to take clothes to fit the trip. Like others I keep enough for a week or 10 days in the trailer. Dry and canned food that doesn't need refrig are in and topped off after the last trip. All that's needed for a quick get-a-way is a trip to the grocery store on the way to the trailer. We are able to keep it at SIL's place about tqo miles from home. Can be on the road in about an hour.
  • Generally takes us 2 hrs to pack for any trip over 5 days. My clothes for 5 days are two pairs of pants, 5 changes of underwear, and two shirts. My wife takes 15 outfits, 3 per day, of which she will use maybe 3 different ones.

I always say it takes me 4 hours to get on the road for a trip of more than 1000 miles and 30 days...but two hours for a trip back to Alaska. I'm slower now, three hours for Alaska.
  • We plan our trips so far in advance, I turn on the fridge, check batts, tires the day before while DW makes the grocery run. Groceries go quickly into MH night before along with whatever we need to take along. Morning of trip, we have b'fast and off we go. Works well for us.
  • Before we were fulltime, we kept everything needed except frozen/refrigerated food and our clothes in the coach. We could be ready to go within an hour.
  • Our 5'er is kept at the house, plugged in and fridge running all the time (during the season), all condiments like ketchup, mustard, etc. are left in there. There are canned foods as well as flour, oil, and all those essentials that stay in.

We keep 3 complete "camping" outfits as well as 1 dressy outfit for each of us in there during the season.

So, if we decide to GO, it takes us less than 20 minutes to get our meds, dogs, kids, pull the truck under and hitch it and hit the road. Now, at the beginning of the season, we are looking at a few hours to pack and at the end, about 3 days to unload!!

I would not like it at all if we had to keep ours in a storage facility, but I know many have to. It's great to have ours sitting out beside the house and ready to use if we have visitors, family or if one of us just needs to "get away" for a few hours.
