Ogordont,
Thank you for your service to our country as it's so appreciated.
The USA is such a gorgeous country and new beauty is just around each bend. Hopefully, you will get a chance to see the Great Lakes area especially the West Side of Michigan along the shoreline and the U.P. also. You and yours will be so welcome and I'm sure you will enjoy it. Let me know if I can help you with any info you'd like or need if you do come.
Living here for 72 years, camping, RV'ing, and raising a family here and yes they still are here has the benefit of knowing much about the area and state.
We live just outside the official "Coast Guard City USA" as designated by the US Congress and signed into law by the President of the United States years ago. The yearly National Coast Guard Festival is held here and 350,000 to 500,000 attend from all over the country and many come from Canada also for the 10 day event. One of the 6 or 7 festivals we have here each year. so much to do year-around in the area and it's an extremely popular destination for visitors from all over the country and so many foreign countries also.
A link just to wet your whistle and give you a basic partial view of some of the things in our local area:

There's many sub catagories under the headings in the site also.
The USCG is probably better known as the "shallow water navy" to you being a Navy Man! Right? haha
Been nice talking with you!
