This happens too often. The campground store sells firewood that is too green to burn. Why do we put up with it? Not like it's cheap either; usually their firewood is ridiculously expensive.Last time that happened, I demanded - and received - my money back.We should all do this. Then they'll get the hint and sell a decent product.I remember one campground where the owner told me I could have as much firewood as I wanted - free. He even delivered! It was pretty green but I did manage to start it and keep it burning. But at that price, I wouldn't complain!

One thing I like are BioBricks. They burn HOT and if the wood is green, it helps out. You are right. I can't stand buying wood that is too green. Makes me want to sneak in my own good firewood into the campground.

Here in Oregon I see this as well. I bring my own and if I run short I check closely before I buy. I may look into the biobricks to keep as a back up.

I experience the opposite problem. Here in Arizona, the wood dries out so quickly that it burns too fast. You can purchase a stack of firewood, and it's gone very quickly.

I was camping at a campground that the wood was so dry you could hear sizzling at all the campfires.

Sizzling usually indicates firewood that is not dry, but green and the water is escaping as steam. HMMMM

An alternative is to look for a residential construction site where there is a dumpster. Most carpenter crews are OK with someone grabbing a few pieces. I try to pick up some of the cuts laying around the site, as well. I also pick up any trash like nail boxes, plastic, lunch bags, etc. and get it into the dumpster. I try to make it a win-win for all involved.

Pre-packaged in individual bundles for easy resale and transport and not just dumped out of the back of a truck? Kind of doubt it is readily available from multiple suppliers on every street corner. My guess is the park finds a supplier, places a bulk order for a few hundred bundles and moves on to their next project. They don't go to some secret firewood market on a daily basis and pick out the ripest bundles.

The parks are only selling what they can buy. Getting a refund is about your only course of action. If it happens enough, maybe they will seek out a new supplier.

I agree, nothing worse than green firewood. It's awful, because I've probably got $5000 worth of firewood stacked at home (we supplement heat with our fireplace), and because of the firewood ban cannot use it when we go camping.

HOWEVER, last year, Indiana changed some of that. If the bark is stripped off the wood, you can bring it into most state parks now in Indiana. We did that last year (late in the Summer), and was sooooo glad!

That is because it's dry already when the tree is cut down.;)
We are supposed to get some rain tomorrow though.
