Never made sense to me why people set traps or other attractants INSIDE your RV. You want them AWAY from your RV. I use "mouse blocks" outside, 3 or 4 strategically placed usually near the tires and hitch and/or directly below areas they could scamper up and inside your rv normally. . These are little black plastic boxes with a green block inside of them and a very small hole only a rodent can get into. they nibble on the block, which dehydrates them, and they leave to look for water and die outside instead. Works for me on the nasty critters.
When I had a rat issue I called the exterminator that the storage lot used. I asked the same question about how the poison worked. They told me that they seldom find a carcass in the box. The females would bring the bait back to the nest and feed it to the babies. The poison does dry them out but only the grown mice/rats can get out looking for water and sometimes not even them. That means that if they are nesting inside your RV, you are likely to find a nest of dead bodies inside the RV if you use poison.
I found snap traps worked great with mice and rats for the bigger ones. Glue traps worked best for little ones. That way, you know where the body wound up. While I discovered where they were building their nest, I caught them before they had any offspring.
Cleanup is also dangerous. Be sure to wear a mask as Hantavirus is not something to be fooling around with. Remember these little buggars have no bladders so the poop you can see isn't the only problem. They probably peed over every surface they traveled.
