I was thinking of buying one of these folding boats, to carry on my Class C.I have heard pluses and minuses?Maybe Hard to unfold and fold up?So.... any comments appreciated.A 12 footer is about $2100 including shipping... on sale.I have a Coleman Canoe, 12 feet, but figured too hard to carry and get on top of roof of my Class C.How do you carry your boat/ canoe/ kayack? Check out Sea Eagle inflatables. Use an electric pump or foot pump at the camp-it stores in a bag. You can get canoes, kayaks, ones that take a trolling motor. I think they even make a sail boat.

we have one too... love it ... put the wheels on it.. roll it to the launch float out, take the wheels off and sit inside boat .. I never learned how to swim and feel very safe in ours

Had one for a few years. At first it was sort of hard to "unfold." After setting it up a few times it was easy, little bit of a learning curve. Since it has a "V" hull easier to row and when using it with a motor it handles just like a hard shell boat.

I had an inflatable, 9'6" quicksilver with a yamaha 8 hp electric start motor on it. would have preferred a portaboat myself.

They can be a bit heavy to hoist onto the roof. I have an 8 footer and it is extremely stable. The grandkids love it. They take up a lot more room than you imagine. The seats, are a bit bulky and in a C you will be hard pressed to find room that isn't already in use. I think I would try an inflatable if I bought another portable boat.

Have not used as much as we hoped. When we did, we loved it. Ours is 11 foot long, not sure what they call it and I carry on the roof of the Jeep Liberty. Bought a 6HP Nissan 4 stroke OB for it. Used in both the Gulf and inland waters.
It is difficult to assemble the first time or two, intimidating may be the right word. Then it just goes together with no problems.

So besides carrying the folded boat, I need to count on making room for the seats.

I used to use a large army surplus duffel bag for the seats, anchor & chain, clamp-on lights, life vests, etc. The "accessories" are pretty bulky. Another plus for the Porta Bote; you can't sink it and you can drag it up on a rocky beach without any hull damage. (It is a little hard to get into when it's full of water, don't ask how I know.)
