And we fill the washing machine tub with wood before we leave on a trip. gives on huge amounts of heat, no smoke and doesn't use much wood. Added screw on legs to raise it up when needed. A weber round grill is usually a perfect fit for the top for grilling.
Used one for years, just be sure its stainless. Porcelain can pop off when hot.
yes SS is ideal. However, my experience with mutiple porcelen units between myself and many campers is that they will occasionally pop a small piece of porcelin, but not enough to rule one out. But then they will eventually rust out and don't look as nice as SS.
Just remember, the best maytag fire pits have aged for decades in a laundry room!
and with the decline in top load washers they are getting harder and harder to find. front loades don't have vent holes or a bottom.
