What is the nearest campground to the four Corners in Co.

I want to visit the four Corners tomorrow & also want to get my Co. Sticker for my map.

So I’m looking for the nearest possible camp ground to stay at tomorrow night.

Thank you for you suggestions.
  • As stated before Four Cornors is on First Nations land and yes they do have booths to sell many different items, etc. When we were there a few years back the actual Four Cornors monument and cairn were quite nice however the parking areas and surrounding area were pretty rundown, rutted, etc. More like open range land with trinket booths.
Can’t say that it was a Ripoff as it was something that we wanted to see when we were in the area. It is aplace that you have to visit with abroad mind and then formulate your opinion of the experience if you feel necessary
  • Actually the the monument is exactly where it is supposed to be and at the true corner of the 4 states. It is right over the sandstone shaft marker placed by the original surveyor commissioned by the federal government in the 1860's. Although due to the accuracy of surveying equipment available at that time, the use of previously established surveying data & markers, the difficulties involved due to conditions and terrain there is only an error of 1800 feet of where it "should be" not 2.5 miles. It could be even be considerably less that 1800 ft.

Although there may be errors in the govt surveys, once the survey and marker are established and all parties accept them they are official. So when standing on the marker you are in fact in all 4 states at the same time. No one is being ripped off by the monument being in a false location. Where it should have been has no bearing on what has been established and recognized by law.

  • The marker is not exactly at the true corner of the four states. Was thought it was until modern times and the advent of satellites, GPS, modern surveying etc. it’s still what it was foe years. It is on tribal land and they charge to go there. They also have sales booths set up and sell lots of different kinds of goods. We went, glad we did, but probably won’t go again simply because there are many other places we also want to go. It is what it is and I’d not call it a rip off
  • I have been told that the "marker" is not at the actual 4 corners and I a "rip off". Spend your time at Valley of Gods and enjoy nature. See postings for Valley of Gods or Gooseneck SP

The CLOSEST (and nicest) is the Sleeping Ute RV Park at the Ute Mountain Casino Hotel and Resort, outside of Cortez at Towaoc. It's just a few miles north of the intersection of US 491/US 160. US 160 takes you to Four Corners.

Sounds good, I now plan to check it out & if we don’t like it move on.
Seems there are at lest 2 more in Cortez & an another 2 in the Mesa Verde Area.

But being I’m not wanting to spend most of my time driving.
I prefer relaxing & taking in the attractions & views.

I find most of my spots using the “Allstate” app.
    & the Good Sam books.

    Don't think it public.
    Belongs to the Indians.

  • We liked the one in Cortez Colorado.. right in the middle of town. Can’t remember the name but believe it is the only one right in town.
