What is wrong with this industry?

Friends of ours took delivery of a BRAND NEW RV yesterday and report water coming in through the roof last night during a rainstorm. We have an older RV and are preparing to buy a new one. Our research leads to too many stories like this one - horror stories in fact of shoddy workmanship and poor customer service. The industry's position is that it is doing us poor folk a favor by offering anything under $100,000 (entry level). I'm not going to name brands but like I said, my research often turns up stories that are discouraging us from buying new. Maybe we buy used again and tinker and fix rather than turn our hard earned $ over to some dealer who doesn't give us a second thought after we drive off their lot. (We will be looking for a Class C Motorhome. If you know of a good dealer (we'll travel anywhere) please let me know (PM is best). One who is honest as the day is long and will bend over backwards if we have any problems.

  • I have been looking at newer used coaches. I have a 2001 Beaver in great shape for its age and has been meticulously maintained since I have owned it. After I look at 10-12 I am disappointed with the workmanship or should I say lack of that goes into some of these brands.

It seems that many dealers don't care about you once the paperwork is signed and they get their full payment. Then they avoid you, delay you and speak to you like they don't remember you when you handed them that deposit check.

At least I know what has been repaired or replaced, as I do 90% of all the work involved anyhow. So I may look for the enjoyment of looking and hang on to my 2001 relic!

So sorry for your friends issues. I hope they can get some help.....

There is a rule of thumb that goes something like:
If someone is unhappy with a product or service they will tell 8 to 16 people. If they are happy with a product or service they will tell 4 to 6 people.

So keep that in mind when doing research, especially in looking at forums or Better Business Bureau...etc You'll see more complaints than you will satisfied posts, and yet three times as many customers are happy than are dissatisfied.

I think you would be doing the rest of the RV community a favor by naming names, especially this one.
