- pnicholsExplorer IIWay ahead of it's time (maybe) ... our 2005 Winnebago Itasca Class C came with light oak cabinets.
We could not live with dark, or white, or off-white, or blonde RV coach furniture. LIght oak seems about right to us ... very close to the color of road dust so it doesn't show up so much. ;) - travelnutzExplorer IIIt's a personal choice but white is very hard to find in cabinets in new or used RV's today in the western hemisphere as the demand is so miniscule.
We'll take cherry, darker golden stained oak, or walnut cabinets any day over white or off white cabinets. Why? Because white, off white, and light cream cabinets make an RV look like a medical examination room and also quickly show any wear, scratches, or damage like a deer in the headlights.
Yes, we have had an 2 RV's in the past, one with white cabinets and the other with bleached maple and hated both soon after purchasing as it had no character at all and certainly was NOT pleasing or created a relaxing ambiance. More like a sterile featureless look. Years ago, many RV manufacturers had white, or off white, or cream, or light yellow cabinets, or light unstained maple or birch in them and they soon became so dated looking and a real drag/dog on the resale market and so many owners had complained so they basically all switched to darker cabinets for the homey comfort look.
Jayco has tried the whitish look again in 2 model lines but also offers the darker wood cabinets too and in most all product lines. The darker wood outsells the white 5 to one according to Amy Duthie who was or still is the new towables products development manager and I have had meetings with her and it was her words a few year ago.
In our 53rd year of RV'ing while married and another 7 years before that as my parents had travel trailers starting in the mid 1950's. We've seen a heck of a lot of water go over the dam in RV's interiors. - Addy15ExplorerI like the darker interiors. When I've been outside in the sun all day hiking or biking or whatever we're doing on that particular trip, I find it nice to go inside to a darker space. It feels more restful to me after a busy day outdoors.
That said...we have one of the new Winnebago 5th wheels with the off-white cabinets and lighter interiors... :-) - myredracerExplorer IIThe dark cabinetry in RVs is silly. Why when you are camping do you need fancy dancy looking woodwork?? Something more utilitarian, easier to maintain & clean and less susceptible to damage would make more sense. Maybe higher-end MHs are in a different category tho. White and off-white may not be for everyone but there are other lighter shaded colors and combinations that might be okay.
The cabinets doors typically used in RVs are solid wood but the frames are made with low-grade balsa-like wood with a paper wrap that is easily damaged and isn't repairable. There's got to be a better way. - mgirardoExplorerI know Jayco introduced white cabinets in their 2019 Jayflight Bungalow line. Since Jayco owns StarCraft and Indiananna's TT has white cabinets, then there may be others.
When we bought our TT last year (it was a 2017 model), my wife complained about the dark interior. I was a little hesitant to show her the photos of the 2019 with the white cabinets since she loves white cabinets.
-Michael - ScottGNomadI've seen a few units at RV shows. I didn't like them myself.
- IndianannaExplorerI currently have a StarCraft with white cabinets and love how airy it makes our travel trailer. We are considering upgrading to a larger travel trailer but finding extremely time consuming to find a used one with already prebuilt white cabinets. Yeah, we could paint them, but generally if there are white cabinets, then the floors and upholstery are also light in color.
- wa8yxmExplorer IIIThis depends on "New or used"
If you are the one placing the order.. The answer is ALL OF THEM.
If you are the original owner ordering a rig made for you YOU get to pick the color of the cabinet. You tell them "White or no sale" they will make it white. - doxiemom11Explorer IIWhy don't you just paint the ones you have. Sand lightly - primer and then paint. Many have done it.
- hone_eagleExplorerThere are a few /couple ? custom builders, $$$$ but they get the occasional trade.
