I got surprised at an underpass posted in Meters and at a deli counter buying lunchmeat posted in grams. Also a good idea to swap some $US for $CN. Once you leave the border areas, you'll find small businesses that don't know the conversions and don't accept MC/VISA/AMEX cards.
Also, Tim Horton's is the Canadian Starbucks, and they're everywhere.
