I guess I am on the other side here. You state you were driving in a 30 MPH zone, you were not speeding, you knew there was a cross walk, you see someone before they enter it, and you still can't stop in time?
If, instead of a cross walk, you were approaching a 4-way intersection, and your direction did not have right of way (Yield sign), would you have yielded to another motor vehicle coming that did have right of way?
Crosswalks are installed for the safety of pedestrians. We have several on a street near our house that has a 45 MPH speed limit and I have never felt that I couldn't stop.
I will agree that situational awareness is important for the pedestrian, and they should be aware that there are unsafe drivers who do not yield as required by law.
