Whats the best restaurant .....

You know, the most memorable places you have enjoyed a great meal while you've been on the road. #1. We went to Gaidos in Galveston TX. and I had a fantastic seafood platter, the wife had their prime rib. Fantastic. Nice place with interesting history. The bread pudding for dessert was the absolute best I have EVER had.

#2 was Taste of Louisiana Café in Denham Springs LA. Its a little town outside of Baton Rouge. Here I had a smoked sausage Po'boy and wife had a French dip sandwich. Now, this place is a cute little hole in the wall in a quaint antique store filled down town type of burg. What an unexpected treat this place was. Food was fantastic and the people were wonderful. Dessert was a blue berry cheese cake parfait and wow, I wanted to lick the cup it came in. People at a table over from us heard us saying how good it was and tried to order one. We got the last one.

So what gems have you found??

  • 3 places stand out to me...

Drive-In restaurant outside of Bar Harbor, ME Had the best fish sandwich ever there

Cafe at Crawford, TX Had the best hamburger and dessert I have ever eaten

Eons of years ago on the way to Eureka Springs, AR, way past lunch time, couldn't find a place to eat. Finally found June's cafe.. fantastic country ham sandwich.

(All fine dining at its best!)
  • Brewster Fish House in Cape Cod. Awesome seafood and chowder.
The View @ Mirror Lake Inn, Lake Placid NY. Fine dining if you want to splurge a bit.
  • For me, there's no contest. Captain Curt's Crab Shack on Siesta Key off the coast of Sarasota, FL. Best New England Clam Chowder I've ever eaten, and I ate a lot of Chowder when I was in the Navy stationed in Boston.
  • I think this would be a great thread for the Connoisseurs category.

That said, I was stationed in Texas in 1966 and we would camp near Galveston. The Golden Greek in Galveston was THE place to go at that time. It had a sea wall locale. It's closed now but their food was considered the best in Galveston in their day.
