Some thoughts on noise.... you probably can't hear a one-dB difference, many people can't.
A three-dB difference is twice the energy, not twice as loud. A 10 Db difference is 10-times the energy.
A 3-dB change is noticeable to almost everyone.
Many people think that twice as loud is something between 6 and 9 dB (or 4 to 8 times the energy)
This is because the human ear is neither linear nor logarithmic.
