- RandACampinExplorer IIWorst experience camping was still better than the best day at work.
- SCVJeffExplorerThere's something funny about a guy that's a retired Anesthetist almost knocking someone out with a fist.. Working on a punch line (no pun). :B
My worst: Kidney Stone - T18skyguyExplorerThe wife and I we're in a remote campground, and a guy tried to invade our rig. I was in the back, and I noticed my wife struggling with the door which was not locked, and this in broad daylight. You would have thought my wife would have screamed for me but she didn't. I ran to the front and told my wife to release the door. The guy started right up the steps, and when his foot entered the coach, I punched him so hard in the face I saw the blood before he hit the ground. Then he up and run away. When I asked my wife why she didn't scream for me, she said " I knew you'd draw the gun" Which was true, so I give her credit for that good judgement.
- fly-swatterExplorerWent to sleep one night with the neighbors playing guitar and singing around their campfire. Was nice until I awoke at 3 AM to the sound of hollering and fighting and guys threatening to kill each other. Cops showed up 15 minutes later and hauled them away.
- Howie3ExplorerNeeded repairs on the TV so unhitched the trailer and stayed in a municipal campground in a small, quiet town. We kept the canoe right against the trailer while the truck was in the shop. In the middle of the night, my wife was startled to see the shadow of a person right outside the bedroom window. It was a dark and foggy night and no one else in the campground so she opened the window and shouted at the man to leave. As soon as she did so, we hear "POLICE! GET DOWN ON THE GROUND AND DON'T MOVE". It turns out the man (along with an accomplice we found out later) had been running from the police and thought the dark and (nearly) deserted campground would be a good place to hide. My startled DW put an end to that. The nice officer apologized for the intrusion on our night but it was impossible to get any sleep after a police takedown 5 feet from your trailer! The next morning we noticed two parallel creases in the trailer siding, ostensibly caused by the officer's flashlight as he braced himself while turning over our canoe in case the accomplice was hiding there. The dents will forever remind us of our "worst night ever" camping.
Howie - doxiemom11Explorer IIHaving to evacuate multiple times in coastal area because of flooding. Normal occurrence that the locals though nothing of.
- TinstarExplorerA woman pulled out of the site I had just rented. It was the only site left and I was there for a week. She dumped about 2 gallons of "solids" out of her black tank onto the ground. It was accidental but she sure as heck didn't stick around to clean it up.
- Passin_ThruExplorerWe went to SC and the Park people showed us where to park. We set up and some Redneck came and said, "Move, our family always parks there." I told him to go get the park people and I'd do what they said. He wouldn't do it. We got hateful stares for 2 days but they gave up. I'm a Redneck, Vietnam Vet and at 230 and no fat I think they were scared. I would just come out and say "Good Morning' cordially and that was all. That is the only bad experience except for the China Bomb going off on a hot afternoon in Key West TT Park.
UH OH I wrote China Bomb, now the HS people are investigating! - susan-yExplorerI was visiting friends and staying in the city campground in Oak Harbor, Whidbey Island. Had a Class C at the time. A couple sites from me a guy was staying in a tent and he would get drunk and yell about "those rich Canadians" that were ruining "everything". Since my rig had Oregon tags I was a bit confused. We were the only two there.. pretty sure he was yelling at me. Funny now, wasn't funny then.
- Was told checkout time was 11am. We pull in a bit early as we did not go far that day so we are there at 10:30am and our reserved spot is still occupied. We are then told the check-in time is 3pm. wait what? are they busy cleaning the room? And this is the owner himself telling the story. We contemplate dragging the trailer through town etc to get our day started.
The place is only 1/3rd full but we wait our 30 minutes... we ask again and we are told the person is still doing laundry and needs a shower. really? We ask for a new site and it appears it is a real pitn to do that.
Then as we pull into the next site over the person is rolling out. Dang what a lot of drama and stress just to pull in. Place remained less than half full the next two nights. Kinda put a cloud over our first ever stay in Canada.
