I am struggling with the OP's question "When Traveling..." I can see when at the RV park or home all the compressor ideas to check and top off your tires before the trip...no discussion there. But "when traveling" if something went wrong that you need to air up a tire aren't you needing a tire shop or a auto service? Confused.
I of coarse have a 12v emergency compressor just in case but not sure what it would be good for. Not like I can repair a tire and air it up to seal it on the road. Helped someone once to air up their spare because they did not include it in leveling it off before the trip.
There are a few situations where it can reasonably come up.
One is when traveling from a warm area to an area that's substantially cooler; it's good to add a little air to the tires to restore the pressure. Going from Florida to New England in Winter could easily make a 10 psi or so difference, plenty enough to warrant adjustment.
Another is having or developing a slow leak, where being able to add air means being able to drive somewhere to have it fixed vs. requiring a field service call.
A third, that you alluded to, is possibly in needing to use a spare that isn't up to the proper pressure. It's less work to top up the spare if I need it rather than crawl underneath the motorhome and check it before each and every trip.
I also have to add a bit of air occasionally to my ride-rite helper springs, as much because their volume is small enough that checking the pressure also lowers it a half a psi or so each time.
