Which is a good reasonably priced GPS for an rv?

Had a GARMIN 650 but it needed an update and I had to buy a cable for my pc to update it. Plus it would cost $49.99 to get the map update. I was very happy with this one but I know that was made 7 years ago. Technology is much better now. Any recommendations for a good or better than what I had? Used only to find addresses, no fishing or anything else.

hubby just bought this. he likes it is made for rvs specifically.

He got it a few days ago and he hasn't gotten it out of the box yet so I can't give a review on it. Fingers crossed he got a good one :)
  • We purchased the Rand McNally unit and would not do so again. Very difficult to see, even with the sunscreen attached. And it would FREQUENTLY route us in odd directions. Their customer support was mediocre.
  • To my knowledge there are three "RV" model GPS units out there.
The oldest is the Rand unit (sold under both Rand and Good Sam, but it's the same unit). The early production Rand unit's had some serious crash/freeze/brick failures. I don't know if the newer model numbers have fixed these issues.
It comes loaded with the the GoodSam/Woodhals RV campground directory.
There is the Garmin unit mentioned, this also comes loaded with a campground directory.
Then there is the Tomtom model. This comes with a discount to KOA (which would be needed).

On a feature to feature compare, I think the Tomtom comes up short of both the Rand and Garmin units.

Personally I prefer Garmin (I had the -original- Streetpilot, the Streetpilot i2 and now a Nuvi).

That being said -every- GPS will sometimes route you oddly, and once in awhile, dangerously so.
  • Check on EBay...my 750 gave out and I bought a 2560LMT, (LMT=Lifetime Maps and Traffic), for $42 bucks. Just look for the LMT after the model and you'll be set...Dennis
  • Myself, I'm considering the new Garmin 760LMT. It seems to be a good GPS for RV,ers. It has good review from users in general

  • I'd consider chucking the Garmin and using an iPhone, Android, or iPad app. The AT&T navigation app works quite well, even offline, since it has the option to download all the useful maps for later use.
