I'm looking to upgrade my TT tires and wheels from 14" to 15" and am undecided on whether to get 205 or 225 (75R15's). In my case I have ample room for either size. I know the 225's are rated for a higher load capacity. Is there anything I should consider as to highway performance, tire flexing, heat, turn radius problems, etc? Also, with the 225's I have the option of load range D or E. Will LR E tires give too hard a ride? Other considerations?Thanks guys!!

If room allows, and the rims are rated for the higher air pressure, I would probably go with the 225's in the next higher load range myself. You can look on the backside of the rim, possibly on one of the spokes for a weight rating. The tire with the comparable weight rating will be the highest you want to go.You will have a slightly higher rolling resistance, but at ~10mpg regardless the difference probably won't even be noticeable!!! I have good luck with 225 75R 15 E tires and recommend at least E's.However, if you have plenty of room and are going to up size your rims, I would suggest going with 16". Adds many more tire possibility's, including several Light Truck tires.

Go with with 225 75R 15 E.That will give you lots of 'margin' and if you maintain them carefully will minimize your chances of a tire failure.As far as "ride," no one is or should be riding in your trailer anyway so that is not an issue.

On TT/5ers I'd go with the biggest baddest tire you can get. Air up accordingly. Nothing worse than a trailer with tires pushed to the limit.

The Maxxis ST205/75R15 has a recommended rim width of 5.5" but that size wheel is hard to find; most are either 5" or 6", and more 6" are readily available. I guess 6" would be ok for that tire?

Here is what Maxxis recommends for their trailer tires. Check with the manufacturer of the tires you decide to buy.

From what I can tell, the Karrier is their premium radial trailer tire. I have the bias ply K550 model.

Carlisle says their 205 and 215 and 225 tires use a 6" wide wheel.
Other brand tires will be about the same.

Thanks for the recommendations so far!! Does it make much difference as to the width of the the wheel? Haven't decided on 205 or 215 tires. Will 6" wheels be best for either width tire?

Most wheel places will also sell you the tires mounted.
etrailer sells kenda. Ask for Maxxis and they may accommodate your request.

I much prefer to do business with a retailer that I KNOW. If I ever have a problem, I have somebody on my side in dealing with the manufacturer. I get Michelin truck tires and Maxxis trailer tires at Trammell Tire and Service Center in Dahlonega, GA. It's a 120 mile round trip for me, but worth it. He says Maxxis is the only brand of ST trailer tire he will sell.

I know that Kenda has been making some inroads in the dirt bike tire market around here, but that is all I know about that brand.

If you like mountain scenery, give William Trammell a call and make a weekend camping trip up there. He's open until noon on Saturday. Vogel State Park is beautiful.

How much over-capacity is desirable seems to be a judgement call. I have seen some recommend at least 125% tire capacity to load ratio. I haven't seen the logic for that number. When I replaced the 4 year old OEM tires, I went up one size from 205 to 225 and up one load range from C to D. The OEM tires were rated at 104% of the axles at 50 psi. The replacement tires are rated at 145% of the axle rating and 170% of the actual load at 65 psi. The E load range at 80 psi just seemed to be overkill to me.
