The facts are that there are very few reports of personal damage caused by drones. Studies have shown that they are much safer than many people make them out to be. As for shooting them down, the FAA would treat it the same as if you shot at a commercial airliner passing over. They are certified aircraft registered with the FAA and protected in the same way. If you've ever seen any drone footage from the altitudes most are flown at (300 to 400 feet) you'd see that "spying" is a completely ridiculous speculation. I'm reminded of the fear people had when horseless carriages first roamed the land :-)
