I haven't taken mine camping yet but plan to in October. But I can answer 3 and 7 from my perspective.
With regard to 3 I go straight up from the take off spot to a non-annoying altitude - usually a minimum of 100 feet.
With regard to 7, trees really cut down on the range. The theoretical distance of mine is about 1.5 miles but I've lost contact with it on my wooded property only about 100 yards out. If I keep the controller aimed at the drone through the clearing for my driveway it goes much much farther, but still nowhere near a mile.
