The cultural decline and general disrespect began around oh, I'd say the mid 1960's. You know, the "peace-loving", generation. Morals and general community standards have rapidly eroded since then. Might as well enjoy what time we have left here while at the same time trying not to be a door mat for others.
I suspect selfishness has been around a lot longer than many of us recall. Open air garbage dumps and mizzens date back to pre colonial days.....remember the Bowery Boys/Dead End Kids movies where the kids played on trash heaps? Up until the late 20th century many areas poured raw sewage and industrial waste straight into the waterways in this country. We've been collectively selfish for more generations than I care to enumerate so not surprised it's passed down to the individuals.
I suspect loud music wasn't that big a deal then because transistor radios were still expensive and portable stereo systems didn't exist.
