I have several reasons to camp, depending upon "how" we camp.
Sometimes I use the trailer as a hotel room. We went to NYC and brought the dogs. It was much cheaper and easier to bring the camper rather than find a pet friendly hotel and pay for parking in the city. We've gone to visit friends in Florida. Again, we prefer to use the camper as a hotel room rather than share a bed with thousands of other people.
Sometimes its just about getting away. We've gone to Lancaster PA several times just to get away. Its only a 90 minute drive, but its nice just going away for a weekend and getting away from home.
Sometimes its about the destination. There is a beautiful lake about 3 hours away that we have been to twice and have a couple more trips planned there this year.
Sometimes its about the experience. We have several friends that are scattered within an hour or 90 minutes of us. Its difficult to get everyone together to hang out at times. Camping is a universal joy that we share. Somehow its easier to get the group together to camp a couple times a year than it is to get together for dinner. There is just something fun about sitting around at a campsite with your friends, playing/watching cornhole, having a drink or two, relaxing and shooting the breeze. Sitting down together and having a big meal or a potluck dinner together.
When I get older and have the time (and hopefully) money, I would like to use a RV to go across this great country with my bride and see what it has to offer. I went cross country in 6 weeks as a kid with my family and was fortunate to see and experience all different kinds of things and cultures. I want my wife and perhaps my children to experience that with me as well.
There are many reasons to camp. None are better than any other. I have been blessed to have the chance to own a camper the past 4 years. We are saving to buy a bigger one for the growing family now and hope to continue to have the means and resources to continue to do so.
