In our case we had both done a lot of traveling over the years but when our boys came along one dreary motel room after another and the cost of feeding four in restaurants three times a day convinced us there had to be a better way. We bought a popup, haven't looked back since, and although we have fond memories of our popup experiences we'd never go back from a travel trailer. :B
