That so many towable RV's seem to have problems with tires, wheel bearings, and wheel studs? I mean this basic technology has been around since the first automobiles, and you rarely hear of cars loosing a wheel due to broken studs. Major tire failures, or wheel bearing failures. So why is it trailers have so many reported problems?
Tires:
Buy (or accept) junk ST tires - expect problems & prepare accordingly.
Just Say *NO* - to drugs and GY Marathons - and other ST tires.
(Automobile tires are better quality, and mfg to higher specs to begin with).
Always changed to LT tires on towables since about two years into my first TT.
Traveled all over the US since then, *NEVER* had a flat or tire failure.
Bearings:
*NEVER* had any bearing problems of any kind with "towable" bearings since my first TT in 1976.
Pliz list some threads for posters with bearing problems..:h
(See a few asking *how to* service bearings).
Broken Studs:
*NEVER* had a broken stud on a towable (as above).
However - I have had a broken stud when I failed to watch the dummy "torquing" wheel lugs with his air impact on a cargo van I owned.
Now I watch those turkeys like a hawk!
Cars "loosing" a wheel:
Yes - I have responded to a car losing a wheel on a busy freeway, after it (tire & wheel) hit a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.
Why did it come
loose, causing the vehicle to
lose it?
Dunno...:@
Never got to talk with *that* driver - just the one that ate the tire & wheel.
