WiFi Monitors for interior of camper

bpounds, yes, Every Single Time we have left the RV, we have taken our dog with us. Every Single Time. And she is an Akita who does not bark (a Woof or a low rumble is all she does- this is Akita typical). She stays in the truck when we go somewhere if she isn't allowed where we are going. And yes, that can be limiting sometimes. Eating out doesn't happen in hot or very cold weather, eg. That's just sacrifices we make to have her.

At home, we have a 6' fenced back yard and a dog door from the house so she can come and go as she pleases. We live on 10 acres and as I mentioned, Akitas don't bark as a rule (we run security video and know what she does and doesn't do).

Laws and rules are there for a reason and they generally help us all live together when they are followed. As I said before, dogs will often act differently when the pack isn't around. I hope you are correct that your dogs are model citizens. The CG dog rules and bans typically punish the good and responsible pet owners based on the behavior of the bad few.

I find it hard to believe that no one here leaves their dog alone for a couple of hours. What do you do at home? Take the dog everywhere with you? Our camper is our home when we are camping. Dog is happy to live in the camper. She prefers to not be alone, but that's true at home as well, and dog has to learn that sometimes she is expected to behave without our being there to monitor.

It takes training. Easy to find out how to do it and there are many books and videos. Basically just start out with very short periods, with you right outside the door to monitor, and to take action if bad behavior begins. Soon your dog won't know if you are really gone, or just outside the door. Also soon you will know if you have a lonely barker or not. Oddly, our dogs have always seemed to be on their very best behavior when we are gone. Nothing chewed up. Pretty sure that when we leave, nap time begins.

If we want to go to dinner, much better to leave Mandolin in the camper than in the truck. I'm careful to turn off ignition sources like the water heater when we leave. But that's just smart practice regardless.

I don't feel the need for a monitor, and where we camp it would be unusual to have a cell signal anyway. I wouldn't expect weather to change so drastically in 2 hours that it would be a surprise. Just take some time for training, in the camper, in strange campgrounds, and you should be fine. And common sense would say, don't leave fido alone in a strange campground the very first moment you arrive.

Going back to the OP's question - I too like the Amazon Cloud Cams. They show you what's happening and let you listen in, too. There are many settings - if I was watching my dogs, I would set the camera to NOT alert me to motion (or I'd get a hundred texts saying "motion detected") but just peek in from time to time. My only concern would be campground wifi that kicks you off from time to time - I don't know if the camera would automatically hook back up.

Regarding leaving dogs unattended: I have asked various campgrounds what their definition is, and every one of them has said it refers to dogs left outside. Of course there's always the disclaimer about being asked to leave if your dogs are disturbing the peace, whether inside or out. The one exception to this would be a park with an "attraction" - I think Disney World says no dogs left alone, period. But they also have their own kennel available....

Often on these boards "lack of campground etiquette" gets directed at some younger generation with an "it's all about me" mentality. In regards to barking unattended dogs and other etiquette issues over the last 5 years or so, I have observed the recently retired with the shiny new 35' rigs and tow vehicles or huge class A's to be the most guilty of lack of common sense, campground etiquette and common courtesy, and it appears to be a growing trend.

I hope I didn't imply that any specific generation/age is to blame as I have not seen a correlation of that at all.

Sometimes when people are brand new to RV'ing, they just plain may not know the etiquette. We were all there once. If that's the case, it becomes our responsibility to make friends with those new folks and gently steer them into knowledge that they haven't discovered yet.

I put my Generator on auto run. Power goes out Gen starts.

I've never been to a campground, public or private, that didn't have a rule against leaving dogs unattended, period. Actually saw one camper thrown out for leaving his barking dogs in his motorhome.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE dogs- Have had Akitas for 30 years. But it is irresponsible to the dog and your neighbors to leave them unattended in a campground. Sure, fluffy never barks, never poops on the neighbor's yard at home, and wouldn't hurt a flea......when you are present. Dog behavior is often different when the pack leaders aren't there.

How do I monitor my pets? I don't. When we leave home, the dog and cat are in the yard. When we get back home, they're either there or they're not. I can guarantee you that I've never been in violation of any campground rules regarding pets, nor have my pets ever caused any kind of disturbance to any campers...ever. If they get hot, well they can go find a shady spot. If they get cold, they can go curl up in the bushes.

Don't know about others, but MI state parks explicitly prohibit leaving pets unattended either outside, or inside a camper.

Read into it however you wish, I guess one could interpret " except when visiting a restroom or a park building for a brief period of time" however they want. I guess it could mean visiting the worlds largest ball of twine for 3 hours, then going to the seafood buffet for another 3. I also suppose some people consider 12 hours "brief".


Leave your dog in your rig you had better hope it does not bark all day at every noise it hears, because you're going to be getting a visit from the ranger if I have to sit and listen to it. I used to sit back and not make waves, but it used to be the exception more than the rule. The last few year its becoming the rule more than the exception. Too many who think the first guideline below does not apply to them.
