Will 20 mos. old be to young for Yellowstone?

Trying to plan something for our 2 week vacation in August, i started thinking seriously about yellowstone and area. My wife thinks our biy will be a bit to young for the area, which i didnt consider.

Are we better off waiting on this destination and finding a kid friendly place, or do you think we'd be good to go with it.

Never been ther so we dont really know what to expect.

  • 2yo just wants to play and interact with the parents. No reason to go that far or take in all the big features and so much driving. YS will be better for all of you in five more years.

I wish I had a closer recommendation but NE is a bit out of my area. Just a place with some trees, shade and some water is fine. Rocky Mountain area is also great and a lot closer.
  • All of the above plus the child will get next to nothing out of going there and won't remember being there.
  • Altitude and babies don't mix. It isn't unusual for a baby to run an unexpected temperature at altitude. Baby + temperature = cranky/crying. It isn't anything to worry about, but could lead to a very unpleasant trip. Stay close to your home altitude.
  • I don't know how many times you will be going to Yellowstone in the future. But I would suggest holding off until your child is old enough to be able to take in and appreciate the wonder that Yellowstone is.

In addition to what others have said about the difficulty and danger, why would you take a baby or toddler there anyway? Go somewhere they will enjoy now, wait several years and take them to Yellowstone at an age that they too will enjoy it (and remember it).
  • I totally agree with LouisKathy, there are so many places that toddlers could get into very dangerous trouble with just a few steps. Not a place I would consider at all for a relaxing vacation. Find a place where you can relax while your little one plays nearby safely.
  • I wouldn't. Strollers are difficult to push on some of the pathways... and are not allowed in some areas. Which means you would have to carry the baby and everything you might need. Some of the larger areas take a good hour to walk around.

Babies like water to splash in ... you won't find a baby friendly place to do that in Yellowstone NP.

And if you need a doctor in a hurry for an ear infection that comes on suddenly... that could be a problem.
