The way I have been doing it for the past ten years which works fine for us here in the NC mountains where many days and night are zero or below:
Empty the tank completely and pour in the proper amount of waste chemicals. Then pump pink stuff through all the lines, including the toilet. Flush the toilet once or twice as you do it to get a bit of pink stuff into the tank.
The area of the tank is so large, that even if the liquid freezes, there is so much room for the expansion that nothing will get hurt.
