wondering why..question on bumper plugs

Mounting bolts?
Mine, like I had thought all of the so called bumpers, are welded on. No interior restrictions.
Started carrying my extra hoses in a plastic tote, after a good cleaning before putting away each time. All those plastic angles and fittings don't fit in the stowage tube.
Holes in the plugs for ventilation, especially going down the road to dry the hoses out. There are replacements that are plastic screening to keep the critters out.

Yep! I've sealed the ends of mine and use the tried and true vinyl fence post instead. I think the A/C cover and maybe the ends of the awning arms are the only places I haven't yet defended from those evil critters.

O.K., how do all of you get the hose into the bumper carrier? For the life of me, I can not get the rigid ends of the hose to go through the void without getting hung up on the mounting bolts inside. I already replaced the mounting bolts with round head truss type bolts but it seems the rigid ends barely clear the side walls let along any protrusion. I was told I can always just remove the ends and install them when needed but that seems to defeat the tight seals of the ends. It's a finger cross moment with the two hose couple in the middle, so removing the applied ends seem risky.

So there has to be some way of doing it I'm missing. Any suggestions?

I used the square hole to insert a length of rope with a large washer attached so I do not lose the plug during dumping. Be sure not to use a long screw to attach the free end to the outside of the tube or you risk making holes in the hose as it is inserted or removed. Also I removed enough of the screws from the tubing cover on my RV to avoid tears from those along the length os the storage area.

I paint the inside with a old mop and some rustoleum paint.

Agree. You are putting wet material in there. It needs air to dry properly

Use a cheap piece of plastic gutter to place your hose in and it won't get rust on it. Example
I always thought the hole was a place to stick your finger in so you can pull the plug out. Also for air to circulate.
