The Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor adjusts change intervals for the type of driving conditions. No need to change it until it is less than 5%. Just a waste of money, especially if you have 10 quarts to change like I do.
From page 420 of the 2013 F-150 Owner's Manual
From that same document. This is useful to know:
7500-10000 Normal
– Normal commuting with highway driving
– No, or moderate, load or towing
– Flat to moderately hilly roads
– No extended idling
5000-7499 Severe
– Moderate to heavy load or towing
– Mountainous or off-road conditions
– Extended idling
– Extended hot or cold operation
3000-4999 Extreme
– Maximum load or towing
– Extreme hot or cold operation
The big question is how much faith do you want to put in the software to do the right thing with these categories?
I still stay the oil analysis is the best way to make sure you're changing the oil at the right interval.
You would be blown away at what you computers know about how the truck is driven. I have seen print-outs on some of our equipment that tells how an engine is loaded every minute is is run. It will even tell you how much idle time, and time periods between idle and shut down.
My scan tool will tell you how much hp the engine is putting out at any giving time and will also graph it.;)
