People are increasingly driving larger lower MPG vehicles and not cars I guess partly because they perceive gas to be cheap. Really. I don't think it's ever been cheap to keep fuel in a motor vehicle ...

Just gassed up here in South central Va for $2 a gallon, the lowest its been in a while.
But if gas seems expensive to you consider the cost of producing it.
Drilling, and the required permits etc for the government
Transporting the crude
Refining the product into the various grade products
Storage
Transportation back to end users
And the needed insurances and bonds to ensure capability to clean up mishaps
And with all these cost and hurdles it must go through, it's cheaper than a gallon of milk.
Gas is actually a bargain. When you compare it to other commodities.
