You cannot believe the scary towing combos I see

It's Friday night on Memorial Day weekend. I'm sitting outside my TT in a CG watching the parade of rigs driving in.

This guy pulls in next to me pulling a Jayco Jayflight 29QBH, 33+ feet at 9000 pounds. TV a 10 year old F150 short wheelbase, truck bed packed with gear and 4 adults.

Many other scary rigs coming in as well.
  • At least in todays market, we do not have trucks that have higher gvwr's than they do gcwr's eh!

Then there was the dodge deezal pulling a 5w one day, old guy looking over thewheel thru his mile thick glass's, wife in pasenger seat knitting away. meanwhile the trailer was moving side to side some 18" or so. Rather truthfully illegal at least per the laws in my state.

The op's rig he saw....assuming it is not swaying, cans stop in the state mandated time frame if pulled over, along with a few other odds and ends. He is probably legal. As he would get around 10K lbs per axel on the truck before being considered overwt, and around 8-9K on the trailer axels!

  • I travel about 1,000 miles per week. See some scary stuff. Recall a guy last year hauling a brandy spanking new TT, 30' plus or minus. TV was an early 90's Ram 2500. Front shocks fully extended, nose bouncing all over the place. Sure enough as I pass I see the brand new W/D hitch installed.

Also saw a guy pulling a 26' foot or so TT with a lifted newer Chevy. Trailer swaying like crazy. He was oblivious and had the hammer down doing at least 75 or 80. I guess he made it.
  • You know, when I'm setting there being all smug and feeling superior about myself and my 'stuff', I am sometimes forced to realize that those with all that inferior stuff and "scary combos" seem to be having a real good time.

    How dare they...
  • Gas prices and the economy are taking their toll on campers here in western Idaho. The SP camp grounds on the lake are normally close to ½ full by noon on Friday of Memorial Day weekend, but there were only 3 campers in over 100 sites this afternoon. I really doubt that they will fill up this weekend.

As far as scary rigs, if they tried pulling that trailer with a F150 up through the canyon, they would probably not get here. Most of the inadequate rigs never get very far up the road towards us. If the road does not get them, Vic our resident ISP female Rottweiler will get them.....:B
  • I'm relegated to watching the local news where they are showing rigs going down the road. LOL All manner of tow vehicles are being employed this holiday weekend and it makes me kind of glad that I'll be home!

  • seen a lotta rigs heading south in nj towards capemay while working today. wish i planned something for this weekend but doesnt look like weathers gonna be cooperative.
  • :) :) they made it there, eh??? Wouldn't want to follow him home!
We were out on a road trip here.......saw more rigs coming toward central Oregon than we've seen in the last few years.....:) :) Looks like things are picking up!!!
