Lithion Ion is more like a family of chemistries than a single one. If you have a cell phone or a laptop, you've already been exposed the fire and explosion prone chemistries. The chemistry used in the batteries in the link are a LOT less energy dense than phones and laptops and an order of magnitude less dense than the batteries in the 787 (you can't buy those batteries they are custom).
