So one would tin the wire ends with electrical solder. Stick them in the pre-tinned lug (not using any anti-oxidant) and crimp as usual? Then blast the lug with your torch and try not to melt the wire insulation too much? Agree, wicking in solder after crimping might not work.
The crimper will give a much better mechanical connection than solder alone which is probably important for these heavy cables. But my previous cables had a lot more voltage drop than expected, maybe because of weakly crimped (hammer) lugs? Solder should help there.
