Amazon hydraulic crimper

Wanted to give a report on this hydraulic crimper I picked up off Amazon for $37.30 Used it to crimp 4ga cable lugs today and it works very well, put a nice 4 sided crimp on the lug. The dies are marked in MM but from what I gather MM translates to AWG as follows. #4mm=12AWG, #6=10AWG, #8=8AWG, 10=6AWG, 16=4AWG, 25=2AWG, 35=1AWG, 50=1/0AWG, 70=2/0AWG though I used a 25 die on the 4 guage wire and lug and it crimped the heck out of it. Anyway its a good crimper for the money.

    Wow.. Allot has changed since 2001. My DB pin crimper now has 12 seperate pins in it. 3 vertical rows of 4.

    An oxygen atom is pretty small. Love to see a crimper squeeze so tight it would do more than make the little critters giggle.

    Well you know where I is if you need to squeeze anything big. Currently its in its case collecting dust.

    I think mine are so tight that there is no room to flow anything in there. That heat shrink is the waterproof adhesive stuff that used to be available at HF, but can be found on Amazon. Probably something critical and necessary to your situation on the beach.

    That's my plan - crimp the lug tight, then solder it. All those tiny strands rubbing up against each other, oxidizing. When they start turning purple there's no other recourse but to chop them off and start over. Once electricity enters the strands it travels inside the coating of oxide all the way to the other soldered lug.

    Theres no such thing as crimping too far short of blowing a seal or bending the jaw on the crimper. If the crimper can do it, then you should since there clearly is space to do so. As tight as those 4/0 lugs are, I clearly have internal space after the 1st crimp. Its either that or solder.

    In the booklet for the tool I got had two sizes larger than the 240 tool I bought.
