Mex, the ones you had must have been like the Vector ones in that photo, which get to about 14.6 at the end, and shut down with the batt about 97% SOC. The drill with them after they say FUL and quit is to run them again at the 2 amp setting which will run for a while and say FUL again. That gets the batts a little higher in SOC but still 14.6 is max.
The B&D in the photo is the newer (from around 2005/6 when B&D bought Vector) 40 amper that goes to 14.8 and also has an Equalize feature that goes to 15.7v.
To get the 15.7, you first have to chose Wet and the 4 amp setting (no 2 amp) So you can do 50-90s with one go at the 40 amp setting, which takes you to 14.8v (or more like 14.6 at 90% when you quit)
OR if you are on shore power, and have the time, you can just do what I do for my Wet 27 marine/rvs, and start at the 4 amp with E, and it takes the battery right up to 15.7 doing 4 amps till near the end for a taper and then quits. If SG is not there yet, do it again.
The 27s like that low and slow. (I used to use higher amps and got nowhere--it turned out the chemical goings on were being pushed too hard in the 27s--they like/must have low and slow)
That E drill also gets my 6s right up in SG and I can do it without being there, since it shuts off by itself when done. (so I don't need a timer) Can do it overnight when asleep.
So my VEC1093DBD is perfect for my 27s and for my 6s.
My AGMs need the ADJ charger and an ammeter though, for getting them to true full. Just set the charger to 14.8 and wait till amps are down to under 0.5 per 100AH. Too easy! :)
