Thanks, Drew, this answers the question as to why stranded wire to a plug. Since I will not be unplugging once in place, it sounds like I can run Romex from the receptacle to the inverter without issue.
However, if I use a j-box somewhere in between, I can run just one HD extension cord from the inverter to the j-box and Romex to both locations from there. I see the bedroom outlet only being used for an oscillating fan, and the E-center outlet for our 32" TV and a DVD player so not much total draw.
