I work for a luminaire designer/manufacturer. For the last 8 years, all of our R&D effort has been nothing but LED lighting for high-end architectural grade lighting. Not the junk found in Home Depot or other big box stores.
If the LED modules are for 11 volts and you power them up with 12+ VDC, you are what we call "over driving" the LED module. Lumens output will be higher, heat within the LED module will build up and the lifespan of the LED module will be greatly reduced leading to early failure.
